Tell policymakers: this is not the time to weaken the Endangered Species Act. It is time to strengthen and fully fund it.

The Endangered Species Act is one of America’s bedrock environmental statutes, protecting species at risk for extinction. Since its enactment in 1973, it has also set the standard for wildlife conservation laws. For more than 50 years, it has helped prevent the extinction of iconic wildlife like bald eagles, humpback whales, sea turtles, black-footed ferrets, and hundreds of other species that are part of America’s natural heritage. More than 99% of species listed under the Act have avoided extinction because of its protections.
Today, wildlife faces growing threats from habitat loss and human development pressures. At a time when biodiversity loss is accelerating worldwide, policymakers should strengthen and fully fund the Endangered Species Act—not weaken or dismantle the protections that species and communities depend on to thrive.
Wildlife cannot survive without habitat. Forests, wetlands, rivers, grasslands, and coastlines are not empty spaces—they are homes. They also provide immense benefits to people, too. Healthy ecosystems help filter drinking water, reduce flooding, support pollinators that sustain agriculture, store carbon, buffer communities from extreme weather, and support outdoor recreation economies across the country. Nature is also deeply connected to human health and wellbeing. Access to healthy natural spaces supports mental and physical health for millions of Americans.
The Endangered Species Act protects more than wildlife—it helps sustain the natural systems that support our economy, health, and future. Healthy ecosystems underpin resilient communities, local livelihoods, tourism, fisheries, agriculture, and countless jobs tied to the natural world. Conserving wildlife and nature goes hand in hand with ensuring our future prosperity.
I urge policymakers to:
- Oppose efforts to weaken the Endangered Species Act or reduce the habitat protections it provides.
- Reject attempts to undermine science-based species protections.
- Fully fund endangered species recovery and habitat conservation programs.
- Support collaborative conservation efforts with states, Tribes, local communities, landowners, and scientists.
Future generations deserve a world where red wolves still roam, monarch butterflies still migrate, sea turtles still return to nest, and healthy ecosystems continue supporting both wildlife and people.
Please stand up for science, wildlife habitat, and the communities that depend on nature by protecting and strengthening the Endangered Species Act.
