Pledge to be a Steward for Water
Freshwater ecosystems are under growing pressure from overuse, pollution, and climate change. At the same time, our daily choices at home and in our communities shape how water is used, wasted, and protected.
By making small, intentional changes, each of us can help safeguard water for people and nature.
Dear World Wildlife Fund,
I understand that freshwater is a shared and limited resource. I commit to taking meaningful action to reduce my water footprint and support freshwater protection.
To get started, I will choose at least one action from each area.
At home:
- Learn about the hidden water use in my everyday activities from the food I eat to the electricity I use
- Choose water-smart clothing made from renewable sources that use more water-efficient production methods
- Make more informed choices at the grocery store incorporating local and seasonal produce and cutting back on beef and dairy, which are more water intensive in production
In my community:
- Support local efforts to protect rivers, wetlands, and other freshwater sources
- Organize community freshwater cleanups
- Raise awareness about what water scarcity really means and how it's affecting my neighborhood and community
- Encourage businesses and leaders to use water responsibly and equitably
- Attend local policy meetings to advocate for freshwater protection
I pledge to take steps to be part of a growing movement to protect freshwater resources. Together, we can ensure that water remains safe, affordable, and available for all.
Sincerely,
